From First Impressions to Filler Words
A 90-Minute Remote Coaching Session for Teens + Young Adults
The First Impression
Whether your teen is applying for a summer internship, a first job, or gearing up for college, the first impression they make will have a direct impact on how they are seen, perceived, and regarded by others.
Using filler words such as... um, like, you know, I mean... make it much more difficult for your teen to communicate their value and make a meaningful first impression. It may also cause them to undermine their credibility at the very moment they are putting it on the line for the first time.
We are parents too. We get it.
That’s why we created this effective (and enjoyable!) 90-minute skill-building session.
ABOUT THE SESSION
In this one-to-one session designed specifically for teenagers, participants will gain invaluable takeaway tools for eliminating filler words.
Learning Goals
Understand why filler words happen and when they are most likely to show up
Identify common filler words (and “crutch” words)
Stop filler words before they happen
Use correct breathing techniques to support focus and clarity of thought
Project greater confidence when speaking
Gain a step-by-step Filler Word Eliminator technique
Class Experience
We believe in the power of learning by doing! In this session, we will use our proven 3-part learning model, in which we—
Introduce the new learning concept
Reinforce that learning with proven experiential exercises
Integrate the learning by applying it to a real-world context (e.g. a college interview, a presentation at school, a persuasive speech for a cause you believe in, etc.).
Throughout the learning process, your teen will receive in-the-moment evaluation and feedback. With the undivided attention and support of a professional coach and the benefit of practicing new skills without distraction, your teen will walk away with practical and effective tools for eliminating filler words. Tools that can be used right away, and in any communication scenario.
Parents as Learning Partners
Yes, you can help too. Following the session, we will send you a Parents as Learning Partners Worksheet with the core skills covered in the session, practice ideas, and next steps for growth.

Why Teen Programming
Over the years we have received countless requests from clients, friends and family members asking for help preparing their teens and young adult children for college interviews, job interviews, and a variety of professional and pre-professional events.
Drawing on our expertise in self-presentation, performance, and business communication in combination with decades of teaching and coaching teens and young adults, we designed our teen programming with a very specific purpose in mind:
To empower young people by providing them with the skills and tools they need to— engage their audiences, promote their ideas, and more effectively represent themselves in a busy, noisy world.
